    Description

A Vintage York Stencil trumpet that is in GREAT shape!
WOW, Another horn with satin blast finish with a Brushed Red brass bell and clear lacquer!
This is an outstanding Trumpet and a top-quality instrument by one of the older trumpet makers in the US. York started in 1883 and was one of the best of the brass makers through 1971. This is a Warner Concerto model trumpet that was made by York. I believe it was made as an intermediate line to the professional York line. The bell is engraved “Warner, Concerto, USA”. The valves are numbered 1,2 and 3 with a serial number 180552 at the top of the second valve tube. That number dates the horn to 1953. I have had this horn for a few years now and decided to make it into a modern satin beauty. So I disassembled the horn and ultrasonic cleaned it then stripped off the old bad Red lacquer. Yes a student marched with it and painted it red! Almost all noticeable dents were fixed and just a few small dings and ripples from removal are left (mostly on the crook and bell tube and slides). After that I applied the satin bead blast finish to the body. The caps and buttons were brushed. Then the Red brass bell was brushed and a coat of clear lacquer was added to seal and protect the finish. The result is a gleaming satin beauty that looks like a custom horn! It's in excellent mechanical condition - all the tuning slides work smoothly, including the first and third which are usually frozen and require some kind of repair. The slides have their original pull tabs (rare in a used horn). The third valve slide is the pro type with a fixed throw ring. The waterkeys have been re-corked and have new springs. The valves work freely and spring back into place with ease. There is minimal wear on them and they are very quiet for a horn that was made 68+ years ago. They have good compression and I have put in new felts and springs! They also have metal guides that most pro players prefer. There are no big dents in any of the tubing and as we said earlier, just a few small pings from normal wear.
THE HORN IS CONSTRUCTED LIKE A TANK TO LIVE FOREVER!!! The bell has a wonderful look with the contrasting Red brass. I played a Conn Director Cornet as my first horn and it always had a wonderful clear and full tone, as does this one (Melanie said I sound great on this horn, lol, as always). The tone is warm and powerful down low and brightens considerably over the staff and the horn plays very well in all registers. It has the old big band sound. I measured a .465” bore at the second slide and will really fill a room with sound if you need it to. I believe this was an intermediate model in its day and plays very nice! Overall up close the horn is a solid 9 on a 10 scale. The trumpet comes with a good mouthpiece. The horn didn’t have a case and I am including a NEW generic hard foam case. It is black ripstop cloth outside and a nice black molded inside. It has a shoulder strap to carry it and protects the horn well. This is your chance - why spend upwards of 0 for a new Chinese trumpet when you can pick this up for a lot less than that? Take a look...it’s a great horn for a student, intermediate player, comeback player, or collector. It is also a great horn for someone who wants to have a horn that is completely different!
