    THE NORMAN CONQUESTS
    by Alan Ayckbourn
a Fireside Theatre Book Club Edition (Hardcover)
THE NORMAN CONQUESTS is a comic trilogy based on seductions--one man's sexual entanglements with three different women through three different plays.  The comedies center around an English country home, whee an incorrigible lecher named Norman has planned a weekend tryst with his wife's winsome sister, Anne.  Norman is a hyperactive, irrepressible assistant librarian who believes his mission in life is to bring his particular brand of sexual happiness to every woman within grasping distance.  When Norman's weekend plans are discovered by his waspish sister-in-law, Sarah, they're all forced to spend the weekend together--flirting, seducing, and at each others' throats.
The three segments of this domestic farce ricochet around the house:  TABLE MANNERS shows the romantic maneuvering and squabbling in the living room; LIVING TOGETHER reveals prankish skirmishes in the living room; and in ROUND AND ROUND THE GARDEN the bouncy battlefield is the weed-infested outdoors.  Although each play is self-sufficient and can be enjoyed for its own witty banter and spontaneous merriment, the comedies intermesh with deft precision--each providing intriguing perspectives on the others.
Heavily laced with lunacy and occasionally spiked with venom, THE NORMAN CONQUESTS is rollicking, high-spirited marital comedy . . . a triple-threat eruption of laughter over one man's battle of the sexes.
