    Description

'Blood, Sweat and Stanley Poole' Script
    by James and William Goldman
    Original
    , production-used
    play script for the 1961
    original production, which
starred Peter Fonda (in his New York stage debut) and Darren McGavin, and was directed by Jerome Chodorov.
The Goldman brothers had served in the army and the play is about a supply sergeant at an army post in the south.  The play opened at the Morosco Theatre, NYC on 10/5/61.  Interestingly, the script text differs from the version published in 1962 by Dramatists Play Service, Inc.
William Goldman went on to become a highly successful novelist and screenwriter, penning
All the President's Men, The Princess Bride and
    Butch Cassidy
    and
    The Sundance Kid (
    which won the
    Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.)
Notably, brother James also won an
    Academy Award (for
    The Lion in Winter
) and had a similarly successful career writing plays, novels and
    screenplays.
    Script dated April, 1961.
Brad-bound in the original covers, with the title embossed on the front.
Contains minor actor's notations, but is largely unmarked.
