Antique Miniature Air Compressor for Belt Driven Dental Engine
This is a rare oddity. It is a miniature air compressor for a belt driven dental engine. This apparatus is mounted on the frame of the engine arm. The drive belt for the handpiece then also drives this unit, which produces air. (See my other listings for examples of belt driven handpiece systems.) This was probably used to power an air syringe in the days before dental air compressors became universal.
The unit was made by Clev-Dent and is of all brass construction. The dimensions are 4”L x 2 ½”D. The drive pulley is 3” in diameter. And it works!
