Antique 1800's Johnson & Lund Dental Artificial Enamel mahogany wooden box. This box measures 3 7/8" wide, 2 1/2" tall, 1 3/4" deep and is made from 1/8" solid red mahogany with the original clear finish. The decal is in remarkably good shape especially for it's age. The hinges and latch are made of brass and are attached to the box using brass brads that are neatly bent over flush on the inside. The upper latch slides over a pin in the lower half and snaps into the closed position. To open the box, the upper half has to be slightly pried up to clear the pin. The vertical corners have very fine box joints. There is a tight crack in the lid's left side panel that is stable and requires no repairs. On the lid's inside top panel is faint printing (see photo #8). I believe it reads "James Downie Texas Dental Care". A lot of care went into making these small boxes.
